Taxi TV

Taxis in New York City are gradually all getting equipped with televisions behind the front seat. The touch-screen allows you to choose from weather reports, New York City events, or national and local news. Or, you can watch your progress on the map. In the picture, the green dot is our cab, the blue dots behind the cab represent where we sat in traffic. You can watch your fare accumulate as well. As you pass over bridges or go through the Lincoln Tunnel, the toll is automatically added to the fare. And then at the end, you can pay with your credit card.

At the airport, the Taxi Commission, which dispatches you to your cab, hands out a sheet which lets you know appropriate fares for various destinations. The taxis are heavily regulated, but even still, those guys manage to find ways around the rules.
