Peter Gammons is one of the best baseball commentators out there. In his last column with ESPN before moving on to a new job with MLB Network, Gammons gives some inside dope on his twenty years covering baseball with ESPN. My favorite stories? His interview with Ted Williams. His story about Gene Mauch's friendship with Fidel Castro, as well as his recollection that Fidel stood and sang the American national anthem with everybody else at a baseball game at some time. Funny.

Good sports commentators with strong values and a human touch are rare. Gammons is one.
